New PlayPod Boosts Playtime and Learning at Roundhill Primary School
January 2026
Children at Roundhill Primary School in Bath are enjoying benefits to both playtime and learning with the introduction of a new PlayPod, thanks to the Children’s Scrapstore in Bristol, and the Friends of Roundhill.
The PlayPod is a facility which provides pupils with access to a wide range of loose ‘scrap’ materials designed to inspire imaginative play. From plastic tubing and steering wheels to keyboards, crates and cardboard tubes, children are encouraged to use their creativity and teamwork as they explore, build and invent during playtime.
Roundhill pupils said:
Amos, Year One: “I love it!
Lara, Year One: “I think it’s excellent because there is so much to play with”
Gracie, Year Four: “It’s fun, it helps us play together. I like pretending to capture people with the hoops!”
Sofia, Year Four: “I like it because we can role play more easily: we play families.”
The PlayPod was funded by Friends of Roundhill, who have been fundraising through the school’s Summer Fete, Christmas Fair and other activities. The Children’s Scrapstore installed the PlayPod this term, trained staff and visited regularly to support each class as they began to use the facility.
Emma Cooper, Headteacher at Roundhill Primary School said:
“We have been thrilled to work alongside the Children’s Scrapstore to redevelop our PlayPod, and thank you to our amazing Friends of Roundhill who made this happen by funding the project. Playtimes have become more positive and joyful, with both children and adults enjoying creative and imaginative play together. As a consequence, engagement in class has improved, supporting a calmer, happier, and more focused learning environment.”
