St Mary’s Sing Out at One of the UK’s Biggest School Choir Events

February 2026
Pupils from St Mary's Church of England Primary School and Nursery in Writhlington, Radstock were in fine voice this term when they took part in the Young Voices concert in Birmingham, one of the largest school choir events in the country. The Key Stage Two students were amongst near to 9,000 primary school children across the country who sang at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham in January.
Young Voices was founded in 1992 with the aim of growing choir singing amongst UK primary schools. Every January and February the organisation hosts concerts in major arenas across the country bringing pupils together to sing in unison.
Pupils from St Mary’s had been rehearsing since September to perform songs such as a medley from Wicked and Power in Me. The school has been a member of Young Voices for a number of years, and its recent award of the West of England Music and Arts (WEMA) Music Mark highlights the importance St Mary’s places on music.
Cathie Lampert, Headteacher at St Mary’s said:
“Young Voices was truly amazing. Seeing students sing together, support one another, and light up on stage showed how important singing is for mental health — it lifts spirits, strengthens resilience, and reminds us we’re never alone.”
A Year 5 pupil said:
“I loved being part of Young Voices — singing with so many people was unforgettable.”
